Vol. 368 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Waterford Courthouse Accommodation.

165.

asked the Minister for Justice if, in view of the threat of suspending court sittings from Kilmacthomas Courthouse, County Waterford, due to unsuitable conditions, he intends to take any action; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Under section 3(1) of the Courthouses (Provision and Maintenance) Act, 1935, the responsibility to provide and maintain courthouse accommodation rests with the relevant local authority.

I am aware that the court accommodation at Kilmacthomas is poor. A request has been made to Waterford County Council to carry out necessary works. If the council fails to meet its obligations there may be no alternative to transferring the sittings to a more suitable venue.
