At present the total cost of the psychiatric service is not apportioned between community and institutional services as separate accounts are not kept in relation to the community element of the service.
The overall expenditure in the current year on the psychiatric service is estimated at £157.5 million. The services being provided in the community include nursing services, out-patient clinics, day hospitals, day centres, hostels and sheltered workshops.
