Vol. 368 No. 5

Written Answers. - Widow's Pension.

22.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason a widow's pension was withdrawn from a person (details supplied) in County Roscommon.

The widow's non-contributory pension was discontinued in September 1985, because the means of the person in question, derived from a farm holding and small amount of capital, were assessed at £65.79 a week. This exceeds the limit of £46 a week applicable to a widow under 66 years of age with no qualified children.

She appealed against this decision but the appeal was disallowed by an appeals officer on 17 January 1986. I have arranged for a social welfare officer to pay another visit to the person concerned to furnish an up-to-date report on her circumstances. The position will be reviewed in the light of the officer's report.
