Thug Iontaobhaithe Phríosún Chill Mhaighneann don Stát na foirgnimh chríochnaihe agus chóirithe chomh maith leis an músaem agus na taispeántais atá ann le héifeacht ón 19 Meitheamh 1986.
Tá glactha ag an Stát mar chúram air féin go gcothabhálfar Príosún Chill Mhaighneann go deo mar mhúsaem staire agus go gceadófar don phobal dul isteach ann sa mhéid chéanna, ar a laghad, a cheadaítear i gcás Ospidéal Ríoga Chill Mhaighneann.
Beidh Oifig na nOibreacha Poiblí freagrach go hiomlán as an bPríosún. Áireofar na nithe seo leanas sa fhreagracht sin: athchóiriú, cothabháil, slándáil, treoraithe a chur ar fáil, feighlí a fhostú agus cuntais a choinneáil ar fháltais agus ar chaiteachas.
Bunófar Bord Cuairteoirí chun comhairle a thabhairt faoi stiúradh an Phríosúin agus beidh cúigear ball de na hoibrithe deonacha ar an mBord seo. Sa tslí sin beidh guth leanúnach ag na hoibrithe seo i dtodhchaí an Phríosúin.
Cuirfear cóiríocht ar fáil sa Phríosún do Ard-Mhúsaem na hÉireann. Is faoi chúram an Stáit amach anseo a bheidh na taispeántais a bronnadh nó a tughadh ar iasacht go fial don tógra.

The trustees of Kilmainham Jail have handed over to the State the completed and restored buildings together with the museum and its exhibits with effect from 19 June 1986.
The State has undertaken that Kilmainham will be maintained in perpetuity for the Irish people as a historical museum, and that public access to it will be available, at least to the same extent as Kilmainham Royal Hospital.
OPW will in future have full responsibility for the jail including renovation, maintenance, security, provision of guides, employment of caretaker and accounting for receipts and expenditure.
A board of visitors will be established to advise on the running of the jail and five members of the voluntary workers will be included on this board thereby giving the voluntary workers a continuing voice in the future of the jail.
Accommodation in the jail will be made available to the National Museum. The exhibits kindly donated and loaned to the project will henceforth be in State care.
In choosing guides and attendants for the bookshop, the existing voluntary workers shall be given first consideration for such services either on a voluntary or formal basis.
