Vol. 368 No. 8

Written Answers. - Louth School.

265.

asked the Minister for Education his views on the serious situation regarding school accommodation at Callystown national school, Clogherhead, County Louth; his views on the assistant county medical officer's report regarding the conditions of the school; his views on his area school inspector's report on the school; his views on the fire hazard which exists; his views on the school being rampant with live rodents; his views on the prefab which was erected in 1974, 12 years ago, and that in excess of 100 houses have been built in the area; when sanction will be given; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department has agreed to grant aid the provision of a new six classroom national school building at Callystown, Clogherhead, County Louth. The preparation of contract documents for the project was recently completed and the question of the invitation of tenders now arises. A decision in this matter will be conveyed to the school authorities as early as possible.

I am aware from various reports including one from the local health authority that conditions at the school are unsatisfactory and have asked for early recommendations from my Department's professional advisers as to what works should be carried out to ameliorate the situation pending the provision of the new accomodation.
