A total of £1½ million has been provided for the operation of this scheme in 1986 and this represents an increase of 50 per cent over the provision for previous years. In deciding on this substantial increase, the Government took due account of the level of applications for assistance under the scheme. The amount of money to be provided for the scheme in 1987 has not yet been settled.
