Vol. 368 No. 8

Written Answers. - Limerick Community Facilities.

83.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received an application from Limerick Corporation for the provision of community facilities at Moyross, Limerick, including a community care centre, a community hall, shopping facilities etc., at an estimated cost of £250,000; his views on the urgent need for such facilities in an estate of 1,161 local authority houses; if he will sanction this money, as a matter of urgency; when this will be paid; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A proposal was received recently from Limerick Corporation for the provision of community facilities at Moyross, Limerick, and is being examined by my Department. The provision, in conjunction with the Mid-Western Health Board, of a health care centre and medical services, which forms part of the proposal, is a matter for the Department of Health to which it has been referred.

The Deputy may be assured that I recognise fully the need for the early provision of community facilities in new housing areas. However, the financing of items such as shopping facilities and community care centres is not a matter appropriate to my Department.
