137 secondary teachers and 20 teachers in community and comprehensive schools were granted career breaks in the 1985-86 school-year.
As the granting of career breaks in accordance with the terms of the approved scheme is a matter for the managerial authorities of the schools in question, information on the number of teachers who sought and were refused career breaks is not available in the Department.
As the 1986-87 school-year has not yet commenced a definitive figure for the number of teachers who have been granted a career break for that year is not available.
