A total sum of £1.2 million is available in 1986 to meet existing commitments and for allocation to new projects under my Department's capital grant scheme for the provision of youth, recreation and community facilities. A large number of grant approvals in 1985 has involved the carry-over of considerable financial commitments to 1986. Consequently, it has been possible to assist only a limited number of new projects so far this year.
A sum in the order of £300,000 is available to my Department in the annual estimates for allocation and expenditure in the current year on new projects of this nature. An additional sum of £500,000 is now being allocated and this will enable further applications to be considered.
Arising from consideration of the very many applications for assistance of this nature made to my Department, the following are the total amounts allocated to date this year, by county, towards development projects under the relevant schemes operated by my Department:
