Vol. 368 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transition Year Programme.

29.

asked the Minister for Education if he will give details of the number of post-primary schools who applied for the transition year; the number of schools who received sanction; and the financial arrangements he is making to allow schools to proceed correctly with the implementation of the transition year.

Two hundred and one post-primary schools applied for the transition year programme for the school year 1986-87. One hundred and eleven schools have received approval. As it is not envisaged that any additional cost will occur in relation to the school year 1986-87, the question of making arrangements to meet additional costs for that school year does not arise.

That concludes Question Time.

I have a minute left.

I do not think so.

The clocks are different. They need money for the transition year programme. In the intervening summer period, which the Minister will use wisely for reflection, would he reflect on the level of finance needed for the implementation of the transition year programme?
