Limerick East): No merger or take-over proposal relating to the acquisition of the IMP meat plant at Leixlip, County Kildare, has been notified to me, under the Mergers Take-overs and Monopolies (Control) Act, 1978. I am aware of certain newspaper reports to the effect that the meat plant concerned has been sold and containing some speculation as to the identity of possible purchasers. However, I am unable, on the basis of the information available to me at present, to indicate whether these reports are accurate. It is not clear whether an acquisition of the Leixlip meat plant would acquire notification to me under the 1978 Act.
