Vol. 368 No. 9

Written Answers. - Loughrea (Galway) Water Scheme.

54.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will sanction a water scheme (details supplied) in County Galway; if he will outline the updo-date position stage by stage; if he will now direct the release for tender; the number of houses, miles, etc. to be served; the total cost and grants sanctioned; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There are no proposals in relation to the Loughrea Regional Water Supply Scheme awaiting sanction in my Department. The Preliminary Report for this scheme was approved in 1978. It is a matter for Galway County Council to submit contract documents for stage 1 of the scheme to my Department for examination and approval. The overall scheme, as proposed in the preliminary report, will serve Loughrea town and about 2,500 rural houses and involve the construction of reservoirs, intake and treatment works together with the provision of approximately 262 miles of pipeline.
