asked the Minister for Education the number of (a) secondary, (b) vocational and (c) community/comprehensive schools which: (1) sought permission from his Department to offer vocational preparation and training programmes in the 1986-87 school year: (2) were sanctioned by his Department for the vocational preparation and training programme (VPTP); (3) were refused permission by his Department to have the VPTP; and the reason the schools concerned were refused sanction for the VPTP programme.

Of these schools 172 secondary, 227 vocational, 31 community and ten comprehensive schools have been approved. Two secondary schools have withdrawn their applications and a further 13 schools, including one vocational school, are still under examination with regard to course content.
