asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if the Government will respond in a positive manner to the initiative of the local consortium in its efforts to reopen Cork Dockyard; if he is aware that Fóir Teoranta has withdrawn its support for the efforts; and if he will intervene to take the necessary action to encourage the reopening of the yard.

Limerick East): In the reply which I gave to the House on 13 May 1986 to a question concerning Verolme Cork Dockyard, I indicated that the receiver was continuing his efforts to dispose of the assets with the object of facilitating an early resumption of activity and employment at the yard and that he was in contact with certain parties. This, I am informed, is still the position. In the circumstances it would, I believe, be inappropriate for me to comment on any particular offer which may have been put to the receiver.
