Vol. 368 No. 10

Written Answers. - Social Employment Scheme.

127.

asked the Minister for Labour if he will confirm that social employment schemes in Donegal, which have received approval, have now been informed that they may not recruit.

129.

asked the Minister for Labour if he will continue to accept social employment scheme applications; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

132.

asked the Minister for Labour if he will make a statement regarding the notification given to Manpower offices not to recruit further for the social employment scheme even though eligible schemes have been submitted and eligible people are awaiting these.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 127, 129 and 132 together. I am happy to be able to tell the House that the ambitious target of 10,000 participants, which was set for the social employment scheme, was achieved last month. As a result, recruitment for the rest of this year will be limited to replacements for participants who have terminated their employment on SES. New projects may also be initiated where it is possible to do so within the participation level set for the scheme.

Since many of the projects which commenced when the scheme was first introduced are now nearing completion, there is scope for the commencement of many other projects, which are already approved, over the coming months.

128.

asked the Minister for Labour if he will provide details of all social employment schemes approved for County Donegal during June 1986; details of applicants for which permission has been given to National Manpower to recruit employees and details of applications which cannot be proceeded with due to Manpower having been instructed not to proceed with recruitment; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Statistics relating to the social employment scheme (SES) are compiled on the basis of National Manpower Service (NMS) regions. An analysis on an individual county basis will be available when the scheme's records are fully computerised.

In the North West NMS region which comprises Counties Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal, 39 projects with employment potential of 192 jobs have been approved by my Department in the month of June.

In response to the last part of the Deputy's question, I would refer him to the reply which I gave to Questions Nos. 127, 129 and 132.
