Vol. 369 No. 1

Written Answers. - Milk Quota.

386.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the reason the milk quota allocated to a person (details supplied) in County Kerry by his Department was not transferred to Kerry Co-operative Creameries to whom he supplies milk, the additional quota having been granted following proof supplied by him that he supplied milk previously to a cheese-making unit in the district which subsequently went out of business.

The person indicated has been allocated two milk quotas i.e. a direct sales quota and a deliveries quota at Kerry Co-op in respect of the small quantity delivered by him to the co-op in 1983.

Under the Regulations the direct sales quota cannot be transferred to Kerry Co-op on a permanent basis. However it is possible to have this quota transferred to the co-op on a year to year basis with the result that no super-levy would be incurred on deliveries to the co-op up to the aggregate of the two quotas involved. This has already been done and in the first two years of operation of the super-levy system an annual quantity of approximately 11,000 gallons in respect of the person's direct sales quota has been allocated to Kerry Co-op.
