Vol. 369 No. 3

Written Answers. - Mallow (Cork) General Hospital.

127.

asked the Minister for Health if he will grant approval to the Southern Health Board for the development of accident and emergency out-patients accommodation and a waiting room at the Mallow general hospital, County Cork; and if he is aware that the present facilities are not adequate, as they need updating as a matter of urgency because of overcrowding.

I am aware that the present facilities in the accident and emergency department and the out-patients department and waiting area at Mallow general hospital are not entirely satisfactory for the purpose which they serve. A planning brief for the development of the hospital which includes provision for these facilities has been prepared and submitted by the Southern Health Board to my Department. However, in the light of the capital and revenue implications of this development the health board is at present reviewing the arrangements for these services with a view to improving the existing situation.
