Vol. 369 No. 4

Written Answers. - Dundalk Water Supply.

32.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the growing concern at the level of sewerage pollution in Dundalk Bay and if he will provide the necessary finance for a treatment plant for Dundalk UDC.

I am aware that a survey commissioned by the Dundalk UDC indicated that the water quality in the Castletown Estuary, which caters for the effluent from Dundalk town, was generally satisfactory but that there were localised areas of impairment. The initiative in formulating any necessary proposals to further improve the quality of the water in the area concerned would rest with the local authority. No proposals of that nature have been submitted to my Department.
