The provisional estimate of production of undried grain from the 1986 harvest is in the range 1.9 to 1.95 million tonnes. This figure compares with an average of 2.1 million tonnes over the previous five years.
The lower production in 1986 was due to weather conditions coupled with a reduction of 4-5 per cent in the acreage under cereals.
