Vol. 369 No. 12

Written Answers. - Mayo Small Sewerage Extensions.

41.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the problems caused to many areas by the decision of the Government to reduce considerably the allocation for small sewerage extensions to Mayo County Council in the year 1986; if he will allocate extra money to enable those schemes which could not proceed this year to start; and if he will increase the allocation substantially during 1987.

The Deputy will appreciate that I cannot at this stage indicate what allocation might be made in respect of the sanitary services small schemes programme for 1987

I am not aware of any problems which may have arisen from the 1986 allocation of £95,000, which I understand has been expended but has not been drawn down by the council. I would like to draw attention to the fact that a condition of the scheme is that approved works undertaken by a local authority must be completed in the current year and the allocation drawn in full. The question therefore of any further allocation at this stage in the year does not arise.
