Vol. 370 No. 5

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Mostek Company Debts.

6.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will make a statement regarding the debts owed by the Mostek company to the IDA in respect of its factory at Blanchardstown, County Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

(Limerick East): The Deputy is, no doubt, aware that the recoupment of financial assistance given by the Industrial Development Authority in support of industrial projects is a matter for the authority. In reply to an earlier question on the matter, the House was informed on 11 February 1986 that negotiations with regard to the repayment of IDA assistance were then in progress between the IDA and United Technologies Corporation, the parent company of Mostek at the time of the closure.

In reply to a further question, I informed the House on 5 June 1986 that all capital grants paid to Mostek had been recouped to the IDA. Efforts are continuing to sell to a suitable purchaser the factory premises; if and when this takes place I understand that a substantial part of the proceeds will be paid to the IDA. Training grants amounting to £0.676 million have not been repaid; these are not normally refundable.
