A grant of £200,000 was allocated on 20 March 1986 under my Department's programme of assistance towards the provision of community, leisure and amenity facilities, in respect of the renovation of this swimming pool. Arising from representations made by Dublin Corporation on behalf of the promoters, the grant arrangements were modified so as to transfer £50,000 of the grant towards a recreation centre provided by the same body with £150,000 available towards the swimming pool. The grant of £50,000 has since been paid.
I understand from Dublin Corporation that the promoters of the swimming pool project have entered into a caretaker's agreement with the owners of the pool and have signed contracts for the mechanical and electrical works. The corporation have informed me that £90,000 will be spent on the project before the end of the year and this sum will be paid by my Department subject to receipt of the necessary certificates of expenditure.
