Vol. 370 No. 7

Written Answers. - Land Registration.

74.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will arrange, as a matter of urgency, to have a land registration case (details supplied) in County Westmeath brought to the attention of the examiner and then expedited because of the extremely poor housing circumstances of this applicant and family who must await a resolution of title before the county council commence house construction on their behalf.

I am informed by the Registrar of Titles that this is an application for registration under section 49 of the Registration of Title Act, 1964 which was lodged in the Land Registry on 22 October 1986. There is a long delay in dealing with such applications in the Land Registry partly because of the usually complex legal issues involved and partly because of pressure of work generally.

The Deputy will, of course, appreciate that it would not be possible to give favourable treatment to any particular application except at the expense of other applications. I am informed however, that the Land Registry give priority to applications in respect of which it is brought to their attention that there are special grounds for urgency. That, in fact, is the position in regard to this application.
