Vol. 370 No. 9

Written Answers. - Environmental Protection.

49.

asked the Minister for Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry given the conflict which may arise between the development of acquaculture and the need to preserve the unique invironmental features of our coastline, if he considers that policy should be framed so as to utilise to the maximum our coastal areas within an ecological framework; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As Minister for Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry I am very conscious of the need to protect the unique environmental features of our coastline. The Deputy can be assured that when considering aquaculture projects, a primary consideration is the possible environmental impact of such projects.
