asked the Minister for the Environment the amount of moneys given by his Department to Tipperary County Council in 1984, 1985 and 1986 for main road development in County Tipperary; if he is in a position to state what moneys will be available to County Tipperary for 1987; and, if not, when a decision on this will be announced.

I assume the Deputy is referring to the network of national roads which are the main traffic arteries in the country.

Road grant payments totalling £1.627 million and £2.818 million were made to Tipperary (SR) County Council in 1984 and 1985 respectively for works on national roads. The payment made to Tipperary (NR) for the two years were £1.409 million and £2.309 million respectively.

The local authorities have been notified of the following road grant allocations, affecting national roads, in 1986:

(a) Major Improvement Works

£1.540m.

£0.340m.

(b) Other Specific Improvement Works

£0.701m.

£1.459m.

(c) Maintenance of National Roads

£0.639m.

£0.525m.

The allocations at (b) refers to national roads and other roads. It is not, therefore, possible at this stage to supply information in the form requested by the Deputy in respect of 1986.

I am not in a position to say what grants will be provided to the local authorities for works on national roads in 1987, pending the determination of the overall provision for road grants in the context of the budget for the year.

asked the Minister for the Environment the amount of moneys given by his Department to Clare County Council in 1984, 1985 and 1986 for main road development in County Clare; if he is in a position to state what moneys will be available to County Clare for 1987; and if not, when a decision on this will be announced.

I assume the Deputy is referring to the network of national roads which are the main traffic arteries in the country.

Road grant payments totalling £1.9 million and £2.43 million were made to Clare County Council in 1984 and 1985 respectively for works on national roads. The local authority has been notified of the following road grant allocations, affecting national roads, in 1986:
