Vol. 370 No. 13

Written Answers. - River Drainage.

191.

(Limerick West) asked the Minister for Finance if and when he will sanction further extensions to the Maigue Drainage Scheme under the Arterial Drainage Act.

The scheduled works of the Maigue Catchment Drainage Scheme were completed earlier this year and it is not intended to carry out any further construction works. Extensions which were deemed to be economic were included in the scheme.

192.

(Limerick West) asked the Minister for Finance when payment will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Limerick in respect of compensation under the Maigue drainage scheme.

This claim for compensation is under consideration by the Commissioners of Public Works in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945. It is expected that an inspection of the claimant's holding will take place early in the New Year.

193.

asked the Minister for Finance when it is proposed to carry out arterial drainage on (a) the River Fane and (b) Finn/Lackey; if their position has changed on the priority list as a result of his recent announcement referring to the transfer of the drainage section of the Office of Public Works to the Department of Agriculture; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

194.

asked the Minister for Finance if the design of a scheme for the drainage of the Finn/Lackery catchment has been completed; and, if completed, if it will be submitted to the EC.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 193 and 194 together.

The design of a scheme for drainage of the Finn/Lackey catchment has not been completed. It is not possible to say when an arterial drainage scheme might be carried out on either the Fane or Finn/Lackey rivers. The position of these rivers in the drainage programme has not been altered.
