Vol. 371 No. 3

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Nos. 4, 5 and 6; the proceedings on No. 4 shall be interrupted at 1.30 p.m. Private Members' Business shall be No. 9.

With your permission, Sir, I would like to raise on the Adjournment the question of the ongoing difficulties between B & I and Sealink in the context of Dún Laoghaire harbour.

I will communicate with the Deputy. He may not elaborate now.

I do not mean to elaborate.

Sir, with your permission I would like to raise on the Adjournment this evening the failure of the Government to provide funds for the continuation of the social employment scheme in Cork thereby putting at risk 200 jobs.

Is it the intention of the Government to pursue with the Commission in Brussels the application made by the previous Government to have the severely handicapped areas included in the disadvantaged areas?

It hardly arises now.

A Deputy

That was already settled.

May I ask the Taoiseach whether the Children (Care and Protection) Bill which completed its Second Stage in this House prior to the election and which had been referred to a select Dáil committee for Committee Stage will be brought back again before the House and whether a new select committee will now be selected so that Committee Stage of that Bill can now be processed.

Yes, I will ask the Chief Whip to discuss that with the other Whips. I think the general wish would be that that Bill go ahead as rapidly as possible.

On the Order of Business, arising out of the last question and many other similar type questions which could be put with regard to different Bills for which there was broad agreement in this House in the last Dáil, may I ask the Taoiseach if the Government's intention is to reintroduce as many of them as possible and, if that is the case, if it will be possible for the Whips of the parties to meet with the Government Whip to discuss a legislative programme between now and June that would complete a great deal of business that was virtually completed in this House in the last Dáil.

I think that would be very sensible.
