Under the Communications (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) (No. 2) Order, 1987, responsibility for the administration of the British and Irish Steam Packet Company Limited (Acquisition) Acts, 1965 to 1986 was transferred to the Minister for Tourism and Transport. In addition to the foregoing, general policy in relation to cross-Channel or continental ferries continues to be the responsibility of the Minister for Tourism and Transport while any matters arising from the administration of the Merchant Shipping Acts, 1894 to 1983 fall within my area of responsibility.
