Vol. 372 No. 1

Written Answers. - Allocation to Dublin Corporation.

362.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is committed to the continuation of the refurbishment schemes for Dublin's Inner City flats complexes; and the amount of capital which will be allocated to Dublin Corporation in 1987 for this purpose.

The management and maintenance of their dwellings is a matter for housing authorities. It is a matter for housing authorities to formulate proposals for assistance under the remedial and improvement works schemes for certain refurbishment works to individual estates and to submit the proposals to my Department for consideration. To date, no formal proposals in respect of its inner city flat complexes have been received from the corporation. I am anxious that they should prepare, as soon as possible, a planned and phased programme of refurbishment works for such dwellings. A task force, representative of my Department and the corporation has been established to assist in drawing up proposals.

Following the Government's budgetary decisions and in the light of progress made to date, I am at present reviewing the allocations for remedial works notified last February by my predecessor and I will notify the corporation and the other authorities involved of the position shortly.
