asked the Minister for the Environment if he will take measures to more actively assist housing co-operatives providing rented housing and co-ownership housing catering for persons other than disadvantaged categories including the development of an appropriate mortgage and grant/subsidy scheme payable to the co-operatives; and the provision of sites on terms suitable to the needs of housing co-operatives, particularly in the context of encouraging urban renewal and infill schemes.

As indicated in the Programme for National Recovery I intend to examine ways in which voluntary and co-operative housing projects can be encouraged particularly in urban renewal areas. I have already requested An Foras Forbartha to carry out an urgent examination of the potential for co-ownership in the Irish housing system.
