Vol. 372 No. 6

Written Answers. - Birmingham Six and the Guildford Four Cases.

27.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he raised the case of the Birmingham Six and the Guildford Four during the last meeting of the Anglo-Irish Council; the response, if any, he received; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The question of possible miscarriage of justice in Britain is a matter for the British Home Secretary and discussion of the cases referred to by the Deputy is conducted with the appropriate British authorities in London.

The Anglo-Irish Intergovernmental Conference is concerned with Northern Ireland and with relations between the two parts of the island of Ireland. These cases are not appropriate to the conference but are, as I have said, discussed with the appropriate authorities in London.
