The place of detention for 320 young male offenders being constructed at Wheatfield is on schedule for completion before the end of this year and is likely to be in operation reasonably early in 1988. Cost of construction to date is within projected expenditure and the estimated final cost of construction is likely to be in the order of the £30 million projected when the contract was placed in 1984.
