Vol. 373 No. 3

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

34.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the total amount of disability benefit received by a person (details supplied) in County Kildare in the year ending 5 April 1985.

A total of £1,222.20 disability benefit was paid to a person concerned in respect of two claims to benefit which he made in the year ended 5 April 1985. The claims were from 14 July 1984 to 21 July 1984, and from 29 August 1984 to 1 December 1984.

A total of £472.02 pay-related benefit was also issued to the person concerned in respect of the claim from 29 August 1984. He did not qualify for payment of this benefit in respect of his claim in July 1984, as the duration of this claim was under three weeks.

A statement of benefit paid has now been issued directly to the person concerned.

35.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if a person (details supplied) in County Kerry will continue to receive children's allowance for her daughter who is over 16 years and a full time student.

The person concerned ceased to be entitled to child benefit when her child reached 16 years of age in February, 1987.

An application for extended child benefit was received from the claimant and child benefit was awarded with effect from March, 1987 in respect of the child in question. A benefit book, at the rate of £15.05 per month, payable from that date, was issued to the post office of payment for collection by the claimant on 13 May, 1987. A notification to this effect was also issued to her.

36.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason a person (details supplied) in County Kerry was refused maternity benefit.

There is no trace of a claim for maternity benefit in the Department from the person concerned.

An application form for claiming the benefit has been forwarded to her for completion. When it is returned it will receive immediate attention.

37.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare in a case (details supplied) in Dublin 22 the reason the applicant has been refused both unemployment benefit and assistance; if she is now entitled to either of these; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The entitlement to unemployment benefit of the person concerned on her claim of 30 December 1986 was subject to the condition that she had at least 26 contributions paid or credited in the contribution period 6 April 1984 to 5 April 1985 which governed her claim.

According to the Department's records she had no contributions paid or credited since December 1982 when she last signed the unemployed register. She was therefore not entitled to unemployment benefit on her claim of 30 December 1986.

The unemployment assistance claim of the person concerned was disallowed with effect from 30 December 1986 on the grounds that her means which were assessed at £6,524.96 per annum, derived from her husband's income, exceeded the statutory limit in her case of £4,784. She appealed against the disallowance and an appeals officer also disallowed her claim. She was notified of the result of the appeal on 28 May.
