Vol. 373 No. 4

Written Answers. - Salmon Disease.

124.

asked the Minister for the Marine the investigations, if any, his Department has carried out into loss of salmon in the River Suir due to an unidentified disease earlier this year; the progress, if any, which has been made in any such investigation; if there has been any evidence to link the disease with nuclear waste in our seas; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

No unidentified disease among salmon in the Suir has been reported to my Department. Every year a number of salmon die from the naturally occurring disease ulcerated dermal necrosis (UDN). There is no evidence to link this disease with nuclear wastes.
