The development of this proposal, which would involve the connection of two county roads, is a matter for the road authority, Galway County Council.
I understand that the estimated cost of the proposal is in excess of £6 million. In view of the high cost involved a study was undertaken in 1986 on behalf of the council and the report on the study was made available to my Department. The local authority was informed on 27 March 1987, that on the basis of the results of the study, the construction of a bridge at this location would not be justified on economic grounds.
