My Department operate a specific scheme of aid towards the cost of school books for necessitous pupils in post-primary schools. The amount of money available under this scheme in 1987 is £1,605,000.
Apart from this particular scheme the Department does not designate specific allocations for the purchase of books, library materials and services in its overall distribution of funds to post-primary schools. It is at the discretion of the management authorities of each type of school to allocate funds for the materials and services referred to in the question.
