Vol. 373 No. 4

Written Answers. - Connemara Schools Improvements.

230.

asked the Minister for Education whether finance has been allocated for improvements at Aillebrack national school and Bally-conneelly national school, Connemara, County Galway; and if so, when it is expected the work will commence.

My Department has agreed to grant-aid improvement schemes at both Aillebrack and Ballyconneely national school, County Galway.

In October 1986 the authorities of Aillebrack national school were authorised to invite tenders for the works proposed at this school. They subsequently forwarded one tender and were advised that it would be necessary for them in accordance with normal practice to seek other tenders. When this aspect of the matter has been satisfactorily dealt with, the authorities will be authorised to proceed with the works.

In March 1987 the authorities of Ballyconneely national school were authorised to accept a tender for the works proposed there. It is understood that the arrangement is that the works will be carried out during the summer vacation period. When the works have been satisfactorily completed in each case, the appropriate grants will be paid.
