Vol. 373 No. 4

Written Answers. - Facilities for Mentally Handicapped.

16.

asked the Minister for Health the representations which have been received from the St. John of God Centre, Islandbridge, Dublin 7, for the provision of facilities for mentally handicapped people over the age of 18 years; the action, if any, he proposes to take following these representations; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Since becoming Minister for Health I have not received representations from the St. John of God Centre, Islandbridge. However my predecessor received representations on behalf of the Parents and Friends Association for Mentally Handicapped, St. John of God Centre, Islandbridge. These representations set out in a memorandum the association's views, as parents and guardians, of the most pressing needs for mentally handicapped people in the years ahead.

I have read their memorandum with much interest and I have arranged to have it considered in the course of the review of mental handicap services which is currently under way in my Department.
