Vol. 373 No. 4

Written Answers. - Supplementary Welfare Allowances Scheme.

96.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the arrangements, if any, he has made with health boards for the administration of the supplementary welfare allowance scheme following the implementation of the equality legislation.

The implementation of the equal treatment arrangements did not necessitate any essential change in the administration of the supplementary welfare allowance scheme. The special alleviating payments which were introduced for certain families affected by the new dependency arrangements are provided directly by the Department and not, as originally intended, partially by the health boards under the supplementary welfare allowances scheme.
