Vol. 373 No. 5

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefit.

38.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether arrears of disability benefit are payable to a person (details supplied) in County Kerry; and if so, when these will be paid.

According to the records of the Department the person concerned has 108 contributions paid on his behalf since entry into insurance. He claimed disability benefit from 28 May 1984 and was paid to 30 May 1985. In order to qualify for payment of benefit beyond that date he would have to have had 156 (now 208) contributions paid since entry into insurable employment.

In order to requalify for disability benefit it will be necessary for him to have at least a further 13 weeks of insurable employment for which the appropriate contributions are paid.

The person concerned continued to submit medical certificates and credited contributions have been awarded to 11 May 1987, the date of the latest certificate received. These contributions, while not entitling him to payment, preserve the continuity of his insurance record.
