Vol. 373 No. 6

Written Answers. - Shercock (Cavan) National School.

20.

asked the Minister for Education when a new national school will be built at Shercock, County Cavan; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I am not in a position at this point of time to say when a new national school will be built at Shercock, County Cavan.

The position is that the Shercock national school has six teachers, and classes are accommodated in three existing classrooms of traditional construction and three prefabricated classrooms. The planning process for the new replacement building has reached the stage where the tender documentation has been prepared, and the project has been listed among those which are ready to proceed to the tender action stage as soon as circumstances permit. Because however, of the extent to which my Department's 1987 allocation of capital for the national school building programme had already been committed prior to my assuming office, I am not in a position at this stage to authorise the actual invitation of tenders for the Shercock project.
