Vol. 373 No. 10

Written Answers. - Public Open Spaces.

53.

asked the Minister for the Environment the policy, if any, there is requesting local authorities to provide a minimum specific amount of open space for every 1,000 people; if not, if he will make such a policy; if so, if he will give details of such; and if it applies to the Inchicore area of Dublin city.

The document "A Parks Policy of Local Authorities", issued by my predecessor in February last, suggests a standard of at least 5 acres of public open space per 1,000 population in urban areas. Implementation in particular areas is a matter for the appropriate local authority in the light of local circumstances and resources.
