Vol. 373 No. 12

Written Answers. - European Security Co-operation.

21.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if the position adopted by the leader of the Fianna Fáil group in the European Parliament, Paddy Lalor, MEP on the issue of European security co-operation is Government policy; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

22.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if Mr. Paddy Lalor, MEP and Leader of the Fianna Fáil group in the European Parliament was acting on Government advice when he fully supported a motion in the European Parliament calling on European Foreign Ministers working in the European Political Corporation to promote a European concept of security; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Government's policy in this area is quite clear. Co-ordination of positions among the Twelve members of the European Community on the political and economic aspects of security does not include the military aspects of security. The position adopted by Fianna Fáil MEPs, including Mr. Lalor, during recent voting in the European Parliament on resolutions in this area is consistent with this policy.
