Vol. 373 No. 12

Written Answers. - River Moy Fishery (Mayo) Takeover.

89.

asked the Minister for the Marine the total cost to the State of the takeover of the River Moy Fishery, County Mayo in March of this year; the plans, if any, there are for the development of the fishery; if a manager has been appointed to the fishery, and if so, who; the plans, if any, there are to develop the tourist potential of the fishery; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The price paid for the acquisition of the assets of the Moy Fishery Company Limited was £350,000.

My Department is drawing up development plans for the Moy Fishery. The plans being prepared will take account of its potential from the point of view of angling, and of commercial salmon and eel fisheries there.

I have arranged for Mr. Michael Tolan, an Inspector with the Central Fisheries Board, to be assigned to manage the fishery in a temporary capacity.
