Vol. 374 No. 2

Written Answers. - Coolattin Woods (County Wicklow).

38.

asked the Minister for Energy if an application has been made for the removal of more trees in Coolattin, County Wicklow; the steps, if any, he is taking to prevent the further felling of trees; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

59.

Mr. S. Barret

asked the Minister for Energy if he will give an assurance that there will be no resumption of the felling of trees in Tonnafinogue Wood, County Wicklow which is the last substantial remaining piece of Coolattin Woods; if it is his intention to have these woodlands taken into public ownership; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 38 and 59 together.

I have made a prohibition order which has been served on the owners of Tomnafinnogue Wood. This has the effect of preventing a proposed felling of trees unless a felling licence is issued by me. An application for such a licence has not yet been received from the owners. It is not my intention to take these lands into public ownership.
