asked the Minister for Education if she will give the following information with regard to each of the approximately 170 second level projects which are at pre-contract stage, according to her reply to Parliamentary Question No. 109 of 25 June 1987: (a) the name, location and county of each school, (b) the nature and size of the proposed building, (c) the stage each proposal is at in the planning process, (d) the estimated cost of each project, (e) the date on which each building proposal was first submitted to her Department, (f) the earliest date on which building can commence and (g) the projects on which building work will commence in 1988; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I anticipate that the restrictions in the capital funds for the second-level school building programme for 1988, which restrictions are a necessary part of the Government's economic programme for national recovery, will preclude incurring additional expenditure on any new building starts during 1988 other than on minor capital works of an emergency nature.
I am not prepared to authorise the compilation of the information sought by the Deputy in parts (a) to (f) of his question as it would require an inordinate amount of staff time.
