Vol. 374 No. 4

Written Answers. - Tuam Water Supply.

32.

asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the poor quality of water in Tuam, County Galway; the steps, if any, being taken by his Department and the local authority to provide a proper water supply to the town; the present position regarding the plans submitted by the local authority for the provision of a proper water supply; and when approval will be given and the appropriate funding granted.

The provision of potable water supplies is a matter for the individual sanitary authority, in this case Galway County Council. Approval to a preliminary report and to the preparation of contract documents for a Stage 1 development of the Tuam Regional Water Supply Scheme, which will serve a number of areas including Tuam Town, was conveyed to Galway County Council in June, 1986, the further planning of this scheme is now a matter for the county council and the question of providing finance does not arise at this stage.
