Vol. 374 No. 7

Written Answers. - Louth Housing Estates.

143.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the continued delay in sanctioning the Townspark housing estate, Ardee, County Louth; the reason the tender as recommended by the county manager and submitted to his Department on 16 July 1987 has not as yet been sanctioned; if sanction will be given before the end of 1987 or 1988; the reason it may take two years to finalise this project; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the Ardee area has the highest level of housing applicants in the country; if he will order an inquiry into the matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There has been no avoidable delay in my Department in this case. The proposal involved certain features requiring detailed evaluation and discussions with Louth County Council and a decision thereon will be conveyed to the housing authority as soon as possible. The question of an inquiry into this case does not arise. I am aware of the housing needs for the Ardee area.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in sanctioning the raising of a loan of £30,000 by Louth County Council for the provision of a rear entrance to Lavin Estate, Tullyallen, Drogheda, County Louth; if his attention has been drawn to the danger which exists for the children of the estate; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A formal loan application for the provision of a rear entrance to the housing scheme at Tullyallen has not been received in my Department. A proposal by Louth County Council for the provision of this rear entrance is under consideration and the Council will be notified of the outcome in due course.
