In November 1986, the board of management of each national school was supplied by my Department with a revised edition of the handbook "Boards of Management of National Schools: Constitution and Rules of Procedure". The handbook describes in detail the procedures to be followed by boards of management in the general administration of their schools. It was prepared in consultation with managerial and teacher organisations.
The provisions of the handbook are intended as a guide to members of boards of management, who, under the rules for national schools, are charged with the direct government of the schools under their control. Any breach of the procedures involved will be investigated by my Department.
