Vol. 374 No. 7

Written Answers. - Calry (Sligo) School.

276.

asked the Minister for Education the part of the preparatory work which still remains to be done before the building can commence on the new central national school at Calry, County Sligo; the estimated time it will take to complete this preliminary work; if money has been provided in her Department's Estimate for work at Calry school in 1988; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

277.

asked the Minister for Education if building work will start on the planned new central national school at Calry, County Sligo; and, if so, the approximate date when the work will commence.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 276 and 277 together. The tender recommendations for the proposed new central school at Calry, County Sligo which is to replace the existing national school buildings at Calry and Dunally were forwarded to my Department by the school authorities in September 1987. While it is necessary yet to complete the examination of tenders I have been made aware that enrolments at both schools have been falling. It may, accordingly, be necessary to review the schedule of accommodation to be provided in the proposed new building. I am not in a position to forecast the time scale which may be required for the completion of inquiries.

I should add that irrespective of the outcome of the issues in question, it is unlikely, because of pressure on my Department's 1988 capital provision, that the project can proceed to contract for the present.
